Electric mobility has found its way into the Indian market in recent years. After a brief lull caused due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the market has seen some exciting new launches in the electric vehicle (EV) segment in the past few months, especially in the two-wheeler space.

Although the scooter segment has seen the most action, the motorcycle space has had a few interesting launches too such as Tork Kratos, Oben Rorr and the upcoming Ultraviolette F77.

The latest electric two-wheeler to roll out on Indian roads is Hop Oxo. The Jaipur-based EV manufacturing startup is offering the electric motorcycle in two variants– OXO and OXO X. Prices start at Rs 1.25 lakh for the standard trim whereas the X variant is pegged at Rs 1.40 lakh (both prices inclusive of FAME-2 benefits).

Speaking on the launch of Hop Oxo, Ketan Mehta, CEO & Founder, HOP Electric Mobility said, "Electric is taking the Indian market by storm. This growth is propelled by consumers' inclinations toward sustainable, convenient and affordable mobility solutions."

The new battery-powered motorcycle is available for sale at the company's experience centres and via its website. The company has spread its footprint with around 100 showrooms across the country. Hop also claims that its dealer partners have already received 5000 pre-launch bookings. Although no specific timeline has been revealed, deliveries of Hop Oxo are expected to commence soon.

Oxo is powered by a hub-mounted 6.2kW electric motor with a 72-volt architecture that generates peak output of 8.3 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The motor derives its energy from a 3.75 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with 811 NMC cells and smart BMS. Hop is promising a real-world range of around 150 km on a single charge.

The battery can be charged from 0 to 100% within four hours via a 16 amp power socket. The electric motorcycle can attain a top speed of 90 kmph and it can accelerate from 0 to 40 kmph in four seconds. The standard variant comes with three drive modes– Eco, Power and Sport, whereas the top-end X trim is equipped with an additional Turbo mode that is tuned to offer the best performance.

The bike does not offer any gimmicky creature comforts that some electric scooters in the same price bracket offer. For instance, it doesn't receive a music streaming app, cruise control, a slick interface or speakers. It even misses out on an LED headlight which is a common sight in EVs.

However, Hop Oxo is an overall well-rounded package with useful features like 4G connectivity, a 5-inch digital instrument console, multimode regenerative braking and a dedicated mobile application. The mobile application houses multiple features like geofencing, an anti-theft system, speed control, ride stats and much more. The top-end Oxo X also benefits from Nuron connected technology.
